During the first half of the twentieth century, reading and writing was developed and spread by many influences, the bulk of them commercial, with its possibilities and power only half understood. It was the new men in education who saw the potential most clearly, who built it into a force for readers and writers to then use there influences in books and magazines to build it up into a social force and then by bureaucratic controls destroyed its free artistic expression.
In the rest of the world education was controlled by big business and became entertainment in the form of comics and fantasy books centred for years in America and other developing countries, a mystique was built up of glittering glamorous people, an artificial empire of fabulous fortunes, fabulous costs, and fabulous returns. The coming of the new technological world broke out into national units, but to a large extent reading writing was always going to be in the firing line for both education and business.
This is still in a straight jacket of this dream of luxury and riches today. To some degree bureaucrats have distorted and falsified the real artistic human values of the education system, this distorts the artistic human values which the world like any rich art is capable of expressing. Commercial education can be the apotheosis of ballyoo. Costs of this, it is everything associated with our own self group working and developing education and is often beyond a reason of sanity for us people.
